The main source in this article was Lue Elizondo, a former Department of Defense intelligence officer who had recently resigned. Elizondo claimed to have run this UFO program for nearly a decade. Our previous reporting has revealed that this New York Times article was mostly wrong: Elizondo was not the director of a Pentagon UFO program. And the Pentagon didn’t even have a UFO program. Confusing, right? Well in 2017 when the New York Times story broke, senior officials at the Pentagon were also confused, scrambling to figure out just what the heck this Elizondo guy was talking about. And that’s what this new document is. An accounting of how the Pentagon initially dealt with the UFO story. It was acquired via a Freedom of Information Act request filed by John Greenewald. Greenewald is an expert in government documents and he runs the The Black Vault. The Black Vault contains millions of pages of government documents released via the Freedom of Information act. Ein neu veröffentlichtes Pentagon-Dokument bietet einen Blick hinter die Kulissen und zeigt, wie Militärbeamte auf die öffentliche Aussage eines ehemaligen Mitarbeiters über UFOs reagierten.

Im Dezember 2017 ging ein Artikel auf der Titelseite der New York Times über ein geheimes 22-Millionen-Dollar-UFO-Programm des Pentagons rund um die Welt viral. Die Hauptquelle dieses Artikels war Lue Elizondo, ein ehemaliger Geheimdienstoffizier des Verteidigungsministeriums, der kürzlich zurückgetreten war. Elizondo behauptete, dieses UFO-Programm fast ein Jahrzehnt lang geleitet zu haben.

Unsere frühere Berichterstattung hat ergeben, dass dieser Artikel der New York Times größtenteils falsch war: Elizondo war nicht der Direktor eines UFO-Programms des Pentagons. Und das Pentagon hatte nicht einmal ein UFO-Programm.

Nun, als im Jahr 2017 die Geschichte der New York Times bekannt wurde, waren auch hochrangige Beamte im Pentagon verwirrt und versuchten herauszufinden, wovon zum Teufel dieser Elizondo-Typ eigentlich redete.

Und genau das ist dieses neue Dokument. Eine Darstellung darüber, wie das Pentagon ursprünglich mit der UFO-Geschichte umgegangen ist.

Der Erwerb erfolgte auf Antrag von John Greenewald nach dem Freedom of Information Act. Greenewald ist Experte für Regierungsdokumente und leitet das Black Vault. Der Black Vault enthält Millionen Seiten Regierungsdokumente, die im Rahmen des Freedom of Information Act veröffentlicht wurden.
