How to follow the Euclid launch live

ESA will be broadcasting live as the Euclid space telescope, which will explore the dark Universe, is targeted to launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Cape Canaveral in Florida, USA, at 11:11 local time / 15:11 UTC / 17:11 CEST on Saturday 1 July 2023. A back-up launch date of Sunday 2 July 2023 is foreseen.

Here’s how to follow the launch online.

Space Force: Weather looks good for weekend SpaceX launch of European telescope

Weather conditions should be ideal for the launch of a high-profile, roughly billion-dollar European space telescope from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station this weekend.

If conditions hold, a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket will face 90% "go" weather around Launch Complex 40 for the 11:11 a.m. EDT the instantaneous flight window on Saturday, July 1. That means Falcon 9 must launch exactly on time or the mission delays to another day.

"Hot and humid weather conditions will persist into the weekend," Space Launch Delta 45 forecasters said Wednesday. "With warm temperatures aloft, thunderstorms are not expected. We will see scattered cumulus clouds during the launch window so the primary concern will be the cumulus cloud rule."

In the event of a delay to a similar launch time Sunday, conditions would dip slightly to 70% "go."

Packed in the 230-foot rocket's payload fairing is Euclid, a European Space Agency telescope that aims to help scientists better understand dark matter and dark energy, both of which are believed to influence the growth and development of the universe. The telescope, which stands about 15 feet tall and measures 10 feet in diameter, cost the agency roughly a billion dollars to develop and launch.

After liftoff and a flight toward the east, the Falcon 9 rocket's first stage will target a drone ship landing in the Atlantic Ocean. This will mark the Space Coast's 33rd mission of the year.
