Amazon-SpaceX Starlink satellite launch doubleheader tonight: Everything to know about missions

Prepare for a launch doubleheader tonight: A United Launch Alliance Atlas V rocket and a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket should lift off back-to-back from Cape Canaveral Space Force Station.

First, ULA is targeting 7 p.m. to launch the Atlas V — which is outfitted with five solid rocket boosters — and deploy the first production batch of Amazon Project Kuiper broadband satellites into low-Earth orbit. The launch window lasts two hours, until 9 p.m., and the rocket will fly along a northeasterly trajectory.

A few hours afterward, the Falcon 9 should lift off during a 4½-hour launch window extending from 9:37 p.m. to 2:08 a.m. Tuesday, a Federal Aviation Administration operations plan advisory shows. That rocket will track to the southeast and deploy a payload of Starlink internet satellites.

No Central Florida sonic booms should occur during these missions. The Space Force's 45th Weather Squadron predicted 75% odds of favorable weather for each liftoff, with cumulus clouds and anvil clouds posing meteorological threats.

SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket lifts off into Thursday night sky from Cape Canaveral with Starlink

  • SpaceX launched 28 Starlink internet satellites from Cape Canaveral on May 1, 2025.
  • This was the 18th flight for the reusable first-stage booster, which landed on a drone ship.
  • The next Starlink mission, 6-84, is scheduled for no earlier than May 4, 2025.

A loud rumble sounded throughout the Space Coast on Thursday, May 1, as SpaceX launched the latest batch of its internet satellites.

The Starlink 6-75 mission launched at 9:51 p.m. on May 1 from Cape Canaveral Launch Complex 40, sending 28 Starlink internet satellites to orbit. Starlink provides internet to some of the most remote places on Earth, including remote communities within the United States.

To date, SpaceX has launched more than 8,000 Starlink satellites between the Florida and California launch pads. It is unknown how many are planned for the completed Starlink satellite constellation.

It was the 18th flight for this Falcon 9 first-stage booster. Previous flights include: 11 Starlink missions, Axiom’s Ax-2, Euclid, Axiom’s Ax-3, the CRS-30 ISS resupply mission, SES ASTRA 1P, and the NG-21 ISS resupply mission.

No Space Coast sonic booms were heard. Just over eight minutes after the launch, the booster landed on the Just Read the Instructions drone ship, which was stationed out on the Atlantic Ocean.
