THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: ISROestablishments here are set on the next mission of Geosynchronous Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark-III by Dec end and the integration is getting complete. Other launches lined up include PSLV -XL in Jan, SAARC satellitelaunch in March and Chandrayaan-2 rover tests are complete, ISRO chairman AS Kiran Kumar confirmed this on his arrival here on Tuesday.
"ISRO's next mission is the launch of GSLV-Mk III by Dec end and its integration is getting complete. Other launches lined up include PSLV-XL in Jan and SAARC satellite in March which was planned for launch earlier in Jan. The Chandrayaan-2 moon mission rover tests are also complete," ISRO chairman Kiran Kumar said. On whether 82 satellites will be launched in a single shot on board Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV)-XL, as part of the Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM) planned by Jan 2017, he said he prefers not to comment on that now. "With 36 successful PSLV missions of ISRO, the indigenous cryogenic engine of GSLV and the success of scramjet engine of the Reusable Launch Vehicle -technology demonstrator, India can reduce the cost of access to space," he said.
"Preparations are on for the launch of GSLV Mark III with indigenous cryogenic engine. It will carry the heavy 3.2-tonne GSAT-19E communication satellite from Sathish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota," Vikram Sarabhai Space Centre (VSSC) director K Sivan told TOI. On the Chandrayaan-2 moon mission landing rover tests are complete and it is planned for launch in 2017, he said.
On whether Chandrayaan-2 will explore the possibility to bring helium-3 mineral to earth from Moon, to ensure safe nuclear energy which is not radioactive, Sivan said this second moon mission with orbiter, lander and rover is only for orbiting and landing on moon and will not be back to earth.
